RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's track and field team closed out the River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a sixth-place finish, totaling 47 points across the two-day meet.
Senior
Jerahmia Smith led the Pomeroys with a conference title in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 16.69 meters (54 feet, 9.25 inches) to score 10 points. Smith, who has already qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, added to his weekend with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw (42.93m/140-10), recording a personal-best mark.
Freshman
Brandyn Bobo delivered a standout performance on the track, placing third in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 11.03 seconds to earn six points after qualifying with an 11.09 in prelims.
Freshman
Elijah Williams added a record-setting performance in the middle distance, running a school-record time of 2:00.83 in the 800 meters to lead the Pomeroys in the event. Williams also contributed to the team's fourth-place 4x400-meter relay.
Senior
Jaryn Patterson added six points in the field, finishing third in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5.50 inches).
Senior
Abbott Church contributed in multiple events, placing fifth in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.85 meters (6-00.75) to score four points and adding another four points with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (12.73m/41-09.25).
Freshman
Lane Milner scored in the hammer throw, placing sixth with a mark of 44.59 meters (146-03) to earn three points, and also competed in the discus and javelin.
The Pomeroys also found success in relay events, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:35.50), as
Williams, Patterson, Ethan DeHamer, and Evan Polley combined to earn five points. The 4x100-meter relay team of
Devon Bowe, Joseph Vaughn, Quaion Russell, and Bobo placed fifth (43.93) to add four points, while the 4x800-meter relay also placed fifth (8:26.67) to score four points and post a top-65 NAIA time.
Rio Grande captured the team title with 280.5 points, followed by IU Kokomo (162) and Shawnee State (124.5). IU East (119) and Midway (52.5) rounded out the top five ahead of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. WVU Tech (35.5), Oakland City (22), IU Columbus (10), and Brescia (1) completed the standings.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will return to action Friday, May 8, at the Sycamore Open in Terre Haute, Indiana, with selected individuals competing. The Pomeroys will then turn their attention to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, set for May 21 in Asheville, North Carolina, where Smith is scheduled to compete in the shot put.
