RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Senior
Quinlan Teague delivered a record-breaking performance to headline the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's track and field team on Friday at the River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Teague placed fifth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:05.03, setting a new school record while earning four team points. The mark also ranks among the top times in the NAIA this season, continuing a strong senior campaign for the Pomeroy distance standout.
Senior
Jaci Stone added to the momentum on the track, qualifying for the finals in both sprint events. Stone posted a personal-best time of 12.43 seconds to finish third overall in the 100-meter prelims, earning an automatic qualification. She later clocked a 26.37-second performance in the 200-meter prelims to advance to Saturday's finals. Stone also scored in the field, placing sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.04 meters (16 feet, 6.50 inches) to add three points.
Freshman
Selena Sosa joined Stone in advancing out of the 100-meter prelims, running a personal-best 13.07 seconds to secure a qualifying spot.
In the hurdles, senior
Evelyn Morales qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 16.17 seconds.
Sophomore
Callee Riggle led the Pomeroys in the field events, earning a third-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 35.56 meters (116 feet, 8 inches) to score six points. Riggle also competed in the hammer throw, placing ninth with a mark of 33.72 meters (110 feet, 7 inches).
Sophomore
Joslyn Young added five points in the high jump with a fourth-place finish, clearing 1.47 meters (4 feet, 9.75 inches).
Freshman
Jacee Cottrell contributed in the javelin as well, placing eighth with a personal-best throw of 26.70 meters (87 feet, 7 inches) to earn one team point.
Senior
Josie Gettinger rounded out the scoring efforts with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter race walk, crossing in 36:24.72 to add another point.
In relay action, the Pomeroys' 4x800-meter relay team of
Gwen Garman, Cammie VanGilder, Brooke Mace, and Chloe Field placed fifth with a time of 10:49.71, earning four points while posting a mark that ranks among the NAIA leaders this season.
After day one, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods sits sixth in the team standings with 24 points. IU East leads the field with 91 points, followed by Midway (78.5) and Rio Grande (78). IU Kokomo (41.5) and Shawnee State (25) round out the top five, while Brescia (9) and WVU Tech (1) complete the standings.
