TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's track & field team opened the 2026 outdoor season with a strong and historic showing on Saturday, placing fourth at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational.
The Pomeroys totaled
114 points across 18 scored events, finishing behind Concordia (Wis.) (161.5), DePauw (158.5), and host Rose-Hulman (135.5), while outpacing Franklin and Brescia in the six-team field.
Highlighting the day was a
program-record performance from Callee Riggle, who won the
javelin throw with a mark of 35.26 meters, surpassing her own previous school record. Riggle also added a strong showing in the hammer throw, moving into the program's all-time top-three with a throw of 35.79 meters, and contributed additional points in the shot put.
The Pomeroys also saw a breakthrough performance in the throws from freshman
Maylee Wenzel, who placed third in the
discus with a mark of 31.37 meters—good for a top-three all-time performance in program history.
In distance events,
Quinlan Teague delivered a standout effort with a second-place finish in the
5,000 meters (19:08.90), a time that ranks among the program's all-time bests.
Chloe Field added a runner-up finish in the
800 meters (2:36.43), while
Gwen Garman placed third in the same event and added a sixth-place finish in the
1,500 meters, continuing to build on her place among SMWC's all-time leaders.
On the track, the Pomeroys saw strong performances in the hurdles as
TeRah Cooley placed third in the
100-meter hurdles, while
Evelyn Morales added points in both the hurdles and 400-meter hurdles to contribute to the team's scoring effort.
SMWC's sprint and relay groups also provided key contributions, including third-place finishes in both the
4x100-meter relay (50.66) and
4x400-meter relay (4:30.17), narrowly missing top-five marks in program history.
Additional contributors included
Jaci Stone, who scored across multiple events including the sprints and long jump, along with strong performances from underclassmen
La'Niceon Holman,
Gaige Goodman, and
Brooke Mace, showcasing the team's depth to open the outdoor season.
The Pomeroys' balanced effort across all event groups set the tone for the outdoor campaign, combining record-setting performances with emerging talent and consistent scoring.
Up Next: Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to action on Saturday, March 28 at the Fightin' Engineers Spring Classic in Terre Haute, Indiana. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
