MARION, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College closed out competition at the 121st Annual Indiana Little State Championships on Saturday, highlighted by a championship performance from
Jerahmia Smith at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Smith captured the men's shot put title with a winning mark of 16.98 meters, earning 10 team points and leading the Pomeroys on the final day of competition.
On the women's side, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College totaled 14 points to finish 12th overall, while the men's team scored 10 points to place 17th in a competitive field.
The Pomeroys saw multiple scoring performances throughout the meet.
Callee Riggle recorded a third-place finish in the women's javelin (34.10m) to earn six points, while
Quinlan Teague placed fifth in the women's 10,000 meters (41:04.56) for four points.
Joslyn Young added three points with a sixth-place finish in the women's triple jump (9.51m), and
Jaci Stone contributed a point with an eighth-place finish in the women's long jump (5.05m).
Additional efforts in the throws included
Tristan Benskin, who placed 17th in the shot put (14.13m) and 12th in the discus (40.21m), while
Eli Cox,
Lane Milner, and
Andrew Sedletzeck competed in the javelin. Smith also competed in the hammer throw.
On the track, Stone led the Pomeroys in the sprints with a 15th-place finish in the 100 meters and 17th in the 200 meters, while
Evelyn Morales paced the hurdles group with a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College returns to action May 1-2 at the River States Conference Outdoor Championships in Rio Grande, Ohio, with events beginning at 1 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
