Smith Wins Shot Put, Pomeroys Stack Points Across Board at Fightin’ Engineers Spring Classic

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's track and field team showcased a strong performance Saturday at the Fightin' Engineers Spring Classic, led by a standout effort from junior Jerahmia Smith.

As a team, the Pomeroys finished fourth overall with 69 points in a meet that featured 20 scored events. Rose-Hulman claimed the team title with 285 points, followed by Manchester (122), Oakland City (100), Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (69), Run Club at IU (58), and Indiana Kokomo (39).

Smith delivered a dominant performance in the shot put, claiming first place with a throw of 16.08 meters (52-9.25) to earn 10 team points. He also competed in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 40.75 meters.

In the throws, Lane Milner turned in a strong day with a third-place finish in the discus (42.28m), fourth in the javelin (40.10m), and eighth in the hammer throw (42.96m). Eli Cox added a runner-up finish in the javelin (42.39m) and placed fifth in the shot put (13.30m).

On the track, the Pomeroys saw multiple point-scoring performances in the sprints. Joseph Vaughn led the 100-meter group with a fifth-place finish (11.59), followed by Devon Bowe (7th, 11.66) and Brandyn Bobo (8th, 11.68). Bobo also added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (23.77), while Quaion Russell placed sixth (24.42) and added a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (55.02).

In the field events, Abbott Church recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the high jump (1.78m) and triple jump (11.83m), adding valuable points for SMWC.

In the distance events, Jayden Hickenbotham led the Pomeroys in both the 800 meters (2:07.89) and 1500 meters (4:22.06), while Ethan DeHamer followed closely behind in both races.

SMWC returns to action April 3–4 at the Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.
