INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) softball team (16-16) lost both of their games to the NAIA's #12 team, Marian University (35-10), today. The team would fight through both losses but fall 2-6 in game one and 0-8 (5 innings) in game 2.
Game #31 | at Marian University | L 2-6
The Pomeroys would strike first on an error by the Marian shortstop to score Camryn Scott. Their lead would be short-lived as the Knights would score one on a triple to right-center and another on a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 lead. Marian would take on another in the 4th and one in the 6th to push their lead to three runs. SMWC attempted the comeback in the top of the 6th when Jilliann Reese scored on Faith Pokryfke's single down the left line. Marian would add two more in the bottom of the 6th and put the game out of reach. The Pomeroys would have to settle for the 2-6 loss.
Game #32 | at Marian University | L 0-8
Marian would score three runs through the first four innings, giving the Pomeroys plenty of chances to keep the game close but SMWC bats would go cold in this one as they could only come up with two hits throughout the game. The game was still salvageable until the 5th inning when Marian would score five runs on five hits to run-rule SMWC and sweep the day with an 8-0 win.
