RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team (9-9) fell to the University of Rio Grande (13-8) and Lawrence Technological University (6-5) today. The Pomeroys lost to Rio Grande in the 9th on a game-winning single and would suffer a 4-12 loss to Lawrence Tech later in the day.

Rio Grande took advantage of some SMWC jitters to score two early in the 2nd inning. The Pomeroys struggled to get their offense moving until the 3rd when some speed on the basepaths by Kaelee Moddy and Jilliann Reese would end up scoring a run for SMWC. The Pomeroys would tie the game on a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Young in the 7th, but a 9th inning single by Rio would give them a 3-2 win.
Game #18 | at Lawrence Technological University (Neutral) | L 4-12
SMWC started strong in this one, plating Jaselyn Conn and Camryn Scott on a wild pitch in the top of the 1st inning. Lawrence Tech would respond in the 2nd when a single to center would score two and tie the game 2-2. The Pomeroys took the lead back in the 3rd after scoring a couple but Lawrence Tech would take a commanding 10-4 lead as a result of some SMWC miscues. The Pomeroys couldn't close the gap as they would surrender this one in the 5th, falling 4-12.

We talk all the time about not beating ourselves and unfortunately, our defensive issues came back to hurt us. Any time you play good teams like we did today, we can't give away extra outs and free runs."

The Pomeroys will play again tomorrow, March 22nd, when they travel to face Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky. Game one is scheduled to being at 2:30 p.m. ET.
