SMWC Concludes 2026 Campaign On The Road

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team closed out its 2026 season Friday, falling in a River States Conference doubleheader at IU Columbus. The Pomeroys dropped both games, including a 9-3 decision in the finale at Cera Sports Park, to finish the year at 14-30 overall and 12-24 in conference play.

Game 1 – IU Columbus 9, SMWC 1
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods opened the day by striking first in the top of the first inning, as Caeden Bennett delivered a sacrifice fly to score Kyar McVey for an early 1-0 lead.

IU Columbus responded immediately, tying the game in the bottom half before taking control with a two-run third inning and a three-run fourth. The Crimson Pride added three more runs in the sixth to secure the 9-1 victory.

The Pomeroys were limited to just one hit in the contest, a single from Raegan Manhart, while drawing three walks. Jasmine Kinzer went the distance in the circle, allowing nine runs (seven earned) with three strikeouts.

Game 2 – IU Columbus 9, SMWC 3
IU Columbus jumped out early in the second game, plating three runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 5-0 lead.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods answered in the third inning with a three-run surge to cut the deficit to 5-3. Bailey Duke got the rally started with an RBI double, and Raegan Manhart followed with a two-run double to bring the Pomeroys within two.

The Crimson Pride extended their lead with a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away for the 9-3 win.

SMWC produced 11 hits in the finale, led by Duke's 3-for-3 performance with an RBI. Manhart added two hits and two RBIs, while Hannah Boardman recorded two hits and scored a run.

Lanna Martinez pitched all six innings for the Pomeroys, allowing nine runs on 13 hits.
