#PomeroySB Sweeps OCU to Win 5th Straight

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City on Wednesday night to improve to 14-4 on the year.

SMWC took down OCU 6-3 in game one and 7-0 in game two to win its fifth straight game this March. The Pomeroys have lost only one game, a 7-6 meeting with Midway, since returning from Florida. The Pomeroys now get into their home season with nine home dates in April compared to just one road contest.

The Pomeroys were strong at the plate in game one with 15 hits. Sophomores Hollie Jones and Baylee Waters and senior Emma Riffe all went 3-for-4, while sophomore Kindra Gingerich went a perfect 3-for-3.

The Pomeroys scattered their six runs across four innings with one in the third, three in the fourth and one run in both the fifth and sixth. OCU's late game push in the bottom of the sixth was aided by an error that allowed three runs to score for OCU, but junior pitcher Stephanie Richardson, who went the distance, was able to shutdown OCU's comeback in the seventh.

Jones was responsible for three RBIs with Gingerich crossing home plate three times. Also scoring for SMWC in game one were Riffe, Jones and junior Jacklyn McClain, who made the most of a pinch running opportunity in the fourth.

In game two, SMWC recorded 12 hits, as they kept the bats going and picked up their 14th win of the season. Sophomore Taylor Andrew and Riffe led the way with a pair of 3-for-4 performances, while senior Camille Ulery went 2-for-4. Andrew finished the game with two doubles while Riffe, Ulery and McClain each had one double.

It was junior Christian Chambers' turn to pitch in game two and she recorded her fourth win of the season, as she allowed just three hits.

The Pomeroys will be in action in front of a home crowd for the first time this coming weekend when they host the SMWC Softball Classic on Saturday and Sunday. The Pomeroys will face Robert Morris-Springfield at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Cleary at 2 p.m. On Sunday, SMWC will face Cleary at 10 a.m. and RMU-Springfield at 2 p.m.
