Box Score 2 SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept #13 Cleary on Saturday at the SMWC Softball Field. The #1 Pomeroys took down the Cougars 7-1 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game. SMWC is now 22-5 on the year.
GAME 1
The first game started slow with the Pomeroys scoring one run in the first and the third before putting three runs up in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Junior Camille Ulery went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with two RBIs, while she crossed home plate once herself. Junior Emma Riffe and senior Sarah Burnham both went 2-for-4 and combined to scored five of SMWC's seven runs. Riffe scored three times, while Burnham scored twice. Sophomore Kerri Schrock also played a major role as she recorded a sacrifice fly on two occasions.
Burnham pitched a complete game to improve to 9-1 on the season. She struck out eight batters and allowed just two hits in seven innings of work.
GAME 2
The Pomeroys jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first and then increased their lead to 3-0 after the third. Cleary then came back in the top of the sixth to score two runs and cut SMWC's lead to one. The Pomeroys responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the sweep of #13 Cleary. Freshman Taylor Andrew went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI, while senior Kimberly Strattman came through in the sixth with a two-run single that handed SMWC the victory.
Sophomore Stephanie Richardson pitched a complete game to improve to 8-1 on the year. The Pomeroys will be back in action tomorrow when they host MacMurray at 1 p.m.
