Box Score 2 TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team kept its winning streak alive on Monday with a pair of victories over Shawnee State in Titusville, Fla. SMWC won both games of the doubleheader by a score of 4-1.
All of the scoring was done at the beginning and the end of the first game of the day. The Pomeroys scored two runs in the top of the first via a home run by Senior Sarah Burnham that scored junior Emma Riffe. Shawnee State answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first before the game went scoreless until the seventh inning. In the seventh, Riffe and sophomore Marlee Yeager each crossed home plate with the assistance of a pair of errors by Shawnee State's left fielder and third basemen.
Sophomore Stephanie Richardson picked up her second win of the season, going five innings and striking out five batters. Freshman Taylor Andrew came in for Richardson in the sixth and finished out the game to grab her first career save.
The second game of the day saw SMWC stay off the scoreboard until a big four-run fifth inning. Shawnee State struck first with their lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. The scoreboard was then stagnate until the fifth inning. The first run of the fifth inning for the Pomeroys came when Riffe hit a double to send senior Kimberly Strattman home. Then sophomore Kerri Schrock hit her first career home run to score Riffe and Yeager and seal the 4-1 victory.
Burnham picked up her third win in as many starts for the Pomeroys, going the distance with nine strikeouts.
The Pomeroys will have Tuesday off and will be back in action on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla. Wednesday's doubleheader will be against Rivier and will take place at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
