Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept USCAA foe Robert Morris – Springfield on Tuesday. The Pomeroys won game one 11-1 and game two 11-8 in extra innings.
Game 1
Sophomore Stephanie Richardson recorded her fourth win of the season as she went the distance, striking out eight batters. Junior Emma Riffe and sophomore Marlee Yeager each went 3-for-5 in the game, while Riffe scored three runs and Yeager scored two. Junior Camille Ulery led the team in RBIs with three as the Pomeroys took game one, 11-1.
Game 2
The second game of the day was more of a challenge for the Pomeroys. Freshman Taylor Andrew pitched the first four innings before being relieved by senior Sarah Burnham, who went on to throw four innings.
The Pomeroys found themselves trailing 6-4 entering the seventh inning. SMWC then rallied to score four runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-6 lead. SMWC's comeback was powered by sophomore Jacklyn McClain's triple that scored freshman Mariah Stout and senior Kimberly Strattman. The Eagles didn't go away quietly though as they forced an extra inning with a two-run home run to knot the game at eight in the bottom of the seventh.
In the top of the eighth, it was Burnham's turn to keep SMWC's hopes alive, as she hit a double to score Riffe and Yeager. Burnham then turned around and finished the job from the circle to seal her sixth victory of the season and SMWC's 14th.
After SMWC's 11-8 victory, the Pomeroys are currently 14-2 on the year and will face MacMurray on Wednesday.
