Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team moved its winning streak to 10 games after sweeping NCAA DII Oakland City in Monday's home-opener.

GAME 1 (SMWC 1, OCU 0)

Game one was a pitching duel between junior Sarah Burnham and OCU's Corbin McCrary. Burnham went the distance, allowing six hits and no runs in seven innings of work. The Pomeroys were able to connect on five occasions against McCrary.

Both sides battled through the first five innings with the Pomeroys leaving three runners on, while OCU left two runners on.

The bottom of the sixth started off with sophomore Emma Riffe walking. Freshman Jacklyn McClain would pinch run for her and would ultimately be the winning run. With J. McClain and Freshmen Kerri Schrock and Marlee Yeager on base, it was senior Shelby Turner who knocked in the winning run. A fielder's choice for Turner scored J. McClain when OCU took out Schrock at third but failed to get the lead runner.

OCU made it interesting in the top of the seventh, as they loaded the bases with one out. Burnham though was able to strike out OCU's Barrell and get the final OCU batter to ground out to first. Burnham finished the game with five strikeouts, as she improved her record to 4-1.

GAME 2 (SMWC 2, OCU 1)

The Pomeroys would again get on the board first, this time though it would be in the second inning. Junior Rebecca Latta scored SMWC's first run when an error by OCU's centerfielder allowed Latta to get from second to home, while junior Kimberly Strattman reached first safely.

OCU got on the board in the top of the sixth to tie things up at 1-1. The Pomeroys quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead. This time, it was Turner that crossed home plate after a double to deep centerfield by Latta.

Freshman Stephanie Richardson, who went the distance in game two, handled the pressure in the top of the seventh as she led the Pomeroys in a three-up three-down effort to secure the sweep. Richardson improved to 3-0 on the year with the win in game two.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on March 18 when they head to Missouri Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
