Pomeroys Move Winning Streak to Four Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team had another successful day in Titusville, Fla., as they defeated Bloomfield and Waldorf. The Pomeroys are now on a four-game winning streak and are 5-1 overall.

GAME 1 (SMWC 2, Bloomfield 0)

Wednesday was the second time that SMWC and Bloomfield met, and the Pomeroys were able to get the same result. This time the Pomeroys beat the Bears 2-0 after beating them 2-1 yesterday.

It was again a pitching duel, this time with senior Brooke Jordan in the circle for SMWC. The first four innings went off with little action as SMWC didn't record a hit and Bloomfield recorded just one in the top of the first inning.

With everything knotted up at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Burnham gave the Pomeroys the 2-0 lead with one swing of the bat. Burnham hit her first homerun of the season and recorded her third and fourth RBI of the season as she brought around freshman Jacklyn McClain, who had gotten on base after an error by the Bears' second baseman.

Jordan closed out the last two innings with two strikeouts and finished the day with five strikeouts, allowing just two hits in seven innings. Burnham was the only Pomeroy to record a hit against the Bears, while Jordan was able to battle her way onto the base paths on two occasions via walks.

GAME 2 (SMWC 9, Waldorf 1)

SMWC's second game on Wednesday saw the Pomeroys complete another sweep in Titusville as they defeated Waldorf, 9-1.

The Pomeroys jumped out in front early as freshmen Kerri Schrock and Marlee Yeager crossed home plate to give SMWC an early 2-0 lead. Schrock would again score in the third before Waldorf would answer to make it 3-1 in favor of the Pomeroys. Then, Yeager moved SMWC's lead to 8-1 with a grand slam in the fourth.

Waldorf was unable to answer, and the Pomeroys claimed an eight-run rule against Waldorf as freshman Kelly Combs scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Burnham went the distance in the circle for SMWC, striking out eight batters and allowing only one run on six hits. Yeager and Jordan both finished the game 2-for-3 with Jordan recording a double and two RBI's, while Yeager recorded her first career grand slam.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on March 12, when they face Waldorf and Waynesburg in Titusville, Fla.
