MARIETTA, Ohio – The St. Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams delivered strong, well-rounded performances at the River States Conference Indoor Championships inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center, highlighted by a fifth-place finish from the women and a sixth-place showing from the men.
The Pomeroy women totaled 66 team points to finish fifth overall in the team standings. Indiana East captured the team title with 174 points, followed by Rio Grande (166), Indiana Kokomo (126), and Shawnee State (86).
The SMWC men scored 34 points to place sixth overall. Rio Grande dominated the men's competition with 259.5 points, followed by Indiana East (139), Indiana Kokomo (129), and Shawnee State (107).
Women's Recap
The Pomeroy women showcased sprint depth, distance strength, and relay consistency throughout the two-day championship.
Senior
Jaci Stone delivered one of the top performances of the meet for SMWC, finishing runner-up in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.47 seconds in a photo finish decided by just one-hundredth of a second.
Freshman
TeRah Cooley scored in three events, placing second in the 200-meter dash (26.70), fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.58), and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.16).
Senior
Evelyn Morales (fifth, 9.19) and sophomore
Genesis Boyd (sixth, 9.80) also scored in the hurdles.
Sophomore
Joslyn Young added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.90, while senior
Quinlan Teague secured sixth place in the 3000-meter run (11:03.03).
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Evelyn Morales, TeRah Cooley, Chloe Field, and Joslyn Young placed fourth overall in 4:18.41.
Men's Recap
The Pomeroy men scored across throws, jumps, and middle-distance events to earn their sixth-place finish.
Junior
Jerahmia Smith highlighted the weekend with a runner-up finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 16.47 meters (54-0.50), missing the conference title by just one centimeter.
Junior
Tristin Benskin added a point in the shot put (14.29m), and senior
Abbott Church finished seventh in the triple jump (12.06m).
Freshman
Elijah Williams placed fifth in the 800-meter run (2:00.36), and freshman
Nathan Odle added an eighth-place finish in the 1000-meter run (2:40.82).
Next Up
Smith has qualified for the
NAIA Indoor National Championship in the shot put and will compete on
Saturday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Gainesville, Florida.
