MARIETTA, Ohio – Senior
Jaci Stone broke a River States Conference meet record in the 55-meter dash Friday to headline a balanced and productive opening day for the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College track and field teams at the RSC Indoor Championships.
Stone clocked a 7.41 in the preliminary round to set a new conference meet record and enter Saturday's final with the top qualifying time.
Freshman TeRah Cooley also advanced in the 55-meter dash with a 7.50 to automatically qualify. Cooley later secured a spot in the 200-meter dash final, running 26.63 in preliminaries. Junior
Lauren Majors added a 28.70 effort in the 200.
The Pomeroy women earned a podium finish in the 4x800-meter relay.
Chloe Field,
Cammi VanGilder,
Brooke Mace, and
Gwen Garman combined for a time of 10:39.66 to place third and score six team points.
SMWC added distance points in the women's 5,000-meter run as senior
Quinlan Teague placed fifth in 19:04.50.
In the field events, sophomore
Callee Riggle placed sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 12.87 meters (42-3), while freshman
Gaige Goodman scored two points with a seventh-place finish in the long jump at 4.82 meters (15-9.75). Sophomore
Joslyn Young added another point in the high jump, clearing 1.35 meters (4-5.25) to place eighth.
The Pomeroys also advanced three athletes to Saturday's final in the 55-meter hurdles. Cooley posted an 8.72 to qualify with the third-fastest overall time. Senior
Evelyn Morales advanced in 9.37, and sophomore
Genesis Boyd secured a qualifying position in 9.72.
On the men's side, SMWC delivered strong field-event performances. Junior Tristin Benskin placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.31 meters (50-3), while freshman
Lane Milner finished sixth at 14.57 meters (47-10). Senior
Abbott Church added three points in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters (5-9.25) to place sixth.
The men also scored in two relay events. The 4x800-meter relay team placed sixth in 8:39.00, and the 4,000-meter distance medley relay team finished fifth in 11:21.54.
Elijah Williams led SMWC in the men's 600-meter run with a 10th-place finish in 1:26.04.
After Day 1, both SMWC squads sit sixth in the team standings heading into Saturday's finals. The championships resume Saturday morning with field events followed by running finals. Live results are available at SMWCAthletics.com.
