CHARLESTON, Ill. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2026 indoor season Friday at Eastern Illinois University's John Craft Invitational.
On the men's side,
Elijah Williams turned in one of SMWC's top track performances of the day with a
fourth-place finish in the 600 meters (1:27.51). The Pomeroys also posted a strong showing in the distance medley relay as
Ethan DeHamer, Jaryn Patterson, Williams and Jayden Hickenbotham combined for a
sixth-place time of 11:47.82.
In the field events,
Jerahmia Smith highlighted the throws group by placing
third in the shot put (16.23m / 53-3), meeting the
NAIA 'B' standard.
Tristin Benskin added a
fourth-place finish in the shot put (15.38m / 50-5.5) and later recorded
fifth in the weight throw (16.05m / 52-8) to cap a productive meet.
Eli Cox contributed in both throws, finishing
11th in the shot put (13.80m / 45-3.5) and
13th in the weight throw (13.28m / 43-7), while
Lane Miller placed
15th in the shot put (13.10m / 42-11.75) and
12th in the weight throw (13.29m / 43-7.25).
In the jumps,
Abbott Church delivered another highlight by tying for
third in the high jump (1.85m / 6-0.75) and adding
13th in the long jump (5.54m / 18-2.25).
On the track in the sprints,
Brandyn Bobo ran
7.32 in the 60-meter preliminaries, while
Devon Bowe posted a
7.44 in the same event. In the 200 meters,
Quaion Russell led SMWC with a
25.37, with
Bowe close behind at
25.76. Russell also competed in the 400 meters, recording a time of
56.61.
On the women's side, SMWC produced several top-10 finishes against a talented field.
Jaci Stone paced the Pomeroys in the sprints, taking
11th in the 60-meter preliminaries (8.12) before finishing
seventh in the 200 meters (28.36).
Lauren Majors added a pair of performances, placing
16th in the 60-meter prelims (8.42) and
10th in the 200 meters (28.94).
Jacee Cottrell rounded out SMWC's sprinters in the 60 (9.09) and later ran
32.18 in the 200.
In the 400 meters,
Joslyn Young led SMWC with a
seventh-place finish (1:02.16).
Gaige Goodman followed with a time of
1:10.68.
SMWC's middle-distance group also produced key efforts in the 600 meters as
Gwen Garman posted a
seventh-place finish (1:52.71) and
Chloe Field finished
eighth (1:54.61).
Katelynn Braun added a time of
2:18.48.
In the hurdles, the Pomeroys advanced multiple athletes to the finals of the 60 hurdles.
Genesis Boyd finished
fifth (10.17) and
Evelyn Morales was close behind in
sixth (10.19).
TeRah Cooley also competed in the preliminaries, recording a time of
10.74.
In relays, SMWC's
4x400 group of
Morales, Cooley, Boyd and Young placed
ninth (4:25.72), while the Pomeroys' distance medley relay team of
Garman, Goodman, Field and Brooke Mace earned a
fourth-place finish (14:45.55).
In the field events,
Callee Riggle posted a pair of top finishes in the throws, placing
seventh in the shot put (10.03m / 32-11) and
fifth in the weight throw (12.83m / 42-1.25).
Maylee Wenzel added
11th in the shot put (9.70m / 31-10) and
11th in the weight throw (11.61m / 38-1.25). In the jumps,
Lauren Majors led SMWC with a
fifth-place finish in the long jump (5.05m / 16-7), while
Jaci Stone placed
11th (4.71m / 15-5.5) and
Goodman finished
18th (4.38m / 14-4.5). Young also competed in the high jump, tying for
sixth (1.45m / 4-9).
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will return to action next weekend as the indoor season continues.
