SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – St. Mary-of-the-Woods College senior
Jerahmia Smith has been named the
River States Conference Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday, following a historic performance in the men's shot put at the Fightin' Engineers Invitational on December 6.
Smith (Phoenix, Ariz.) delivered a
landmark result in the field,
smashing his own school record with a throw of
16.41 meters (53-10.25) to win the event against a field of 14 competitors. His mark, achieved on his fourth attempt, surpassed his previous program best and met the
NAIA "B" Standard—placing him among the top early-season throwers in the nation.
The performance stands as the
best shot put mark in SMWC men's indoor track & field history and highlights Smith's continued climb as one of the NAIA's premier throwers.
SMWC will return to competition on
Friday, December 12 at 5 p.m. (ET) when the Pomeroys travel to Indiana State University for the annual
John Gartland Invitational.
