TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Select Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College track & field student-athletes competed on Friday afternoon (May 9) at the John McNichols Track at the Gibson Track & Field Complex at the Sycamore Open hosted by Indiana State University.
Jerahmia Smith made it a perfect 2-for-2 in his career for advancing to nationals as he sixth in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.09 meters (52-9.5) which was just past the 'B' Standard and qualifies him for the NAIA Outdoor National Meet later this month in Marion, Ind. Smith also advanced to the NAIA Indoor Nationals this past winter in Gainesville, Fla. Smith's throw is a new personal best, breaks his own school record and is the top outdoor throw in the River States Conference this season.
Kyla Bradberry -- coming off the River States Conference Championships in which she won three goal medals — shattered her own school record with a time of 23.90 seconds in the 200 meter dash to defeat a total of six NCAA Division I Athletes and win the event. She moved up to No. 6 on the NAIA National seed list with the effort. She will also compete later this month at the outdoor national meet.
Tristin Benskin also competed in the shot put and finished in 10th place with a mark of 14.86 meters (48-9).
Darrius Megnin — the River States Conference Champion in the 400 meter hurdles — finished fifth in the event at this meet with a time of 56.45 seconds.
Bradberry will compete on Wednesday, May 21 in the prelims of the 200 meter dash at the NAIA Outdoor Nationals while Smith will take the field on Friday, May 23 in the shot put. The finals of the 200 meter dash are also slated for May 23.
