TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Dec. 6, 2025) – St. Mary-of-the-Woods College opened the 2025–26 indoor track and field season with a historic performance from thrower
Jerahmia Smith, who smashed his own school record in the men's shot put with a
16.41-meter (53-10.25) throw that met the
NAIA "B" Standard at Saturday's Fightin' Engineers Invitational hosted by Rose-Hulman.
Smith's throw, achieved on his fourth attempt, was the best mark by any SMWC athlete in program history and one of the top early-season performances in the NAIA. He finished fifth overall in a deep field and led a strong opening day for the Pomeroy men.
Behind Smith's record-setting performance, the Pomeroy men placed second with
25.5 points, finishing behind Rose-Hulman (71.5).
Joseph Vaughn put together a strong day, taking second in the
60-meter dash (7.16) and third in the
200 meters (23.88). SMWC also swept both men's relays, winning the
4x200m (1:35.98) and
4x400m (3:45.62).
Elijah Williams took third in the 800 meters,
Nathan Odle placed third in the 3,000 meters, and
Abbott Church scored in both the high jump and triple jump to round out the team's scoring.
