TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams turned in strong performances Friday and Saturday at the John Gartland Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University inside the Hulman Center, with the women placing
third overall and the men finishing
fourth in the team standings.
The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men placed
fourth overall with 30 points, scoring in 14 of 15 events against a deep field.
In the
60-meter dash preliminaries,
Brandyn Bobo paced SMWC with a
10th-place finish in
7.16 seconds, narrowly missing advancement to the finals.
Joseph Vaughn finished
14th overall in
7.24 seconds, followed by
MiRon Starks in
7.40 seconds.
Sprint action continued in the
200 meters, highlighted by
Vaughn, who placed
seventh overall in
23.30 seconds, recording a
personal best.
Starks added a
season-best time of 23.94 seconds, while
Bobo and
Preston Heiliger rounded out the SMWC finishers. Results were unofficial at the time of reporting.
In the
400 meters,
Heiliger led SMWC with a
ninth-place finish in a
personal-best time of 53.45 seconds, followed by
Quaion Russell, who clocked
55.71 seconds.
The Pomeroys delivered a strong collective showing in the
800 meters, placing four athletes inside the top seven.
Elijah Williams led the group with a
fourth-place finish in
2:05.15, posting a
personal best.
Ethan DeHamer finished
fifth in
2:12.12, followed by
Evan Polley in
sixth with a
season-best time of 2:12.32.
James Frye added points with a
seventh-place finish in
2:15.61.
In the field,
Tristin Benskin led SMWC in the
weight throw, finishing
11th overall with a top mark of
15.20 meters (49-10.50).
The Pomeroys earned points in the
high jump, as
Abbott Church placed
seventh overall, clearing
1.80 meters (5-10.75).
SMWC also competed in the
long jump, where
Starks recorded a
personal-best jump of 5.95 meters (19-6.25) to place
10th overall, while
Church followed in
11th place.
In the
shot put,
Jerahmia Smith led the Pomeroys with a
sixth-place finish, recording a top throw of
16.41 meters (53-10.25).
Benskin followed in
seventh place with a
personal-best mark of 15.28 meters (50-1.75), while
Eli Cox rounded out the SMWC competitors.
In the
pole vault,
Jaryn Patterson placed
eighth overall, clearing
3.80 meters (12-5.50) to earn a point.
The men closed the meet on the track with a
fourth-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay. The relay team of
Patterson, Starks, Russell and Williams posted a time of
3:46.34, earning six points.
