WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind.
 – A historic finale awaits the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College sprint football program on Saturday afternoon. The Pomeroys will host Calumet College of St. Joseph in the 2025 Midwest Sprint Football League Championship, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. (ET) at Jay Barrett Field. The game will air live on the Indiana Sports Network, stream on SMWCAthletics.com, and broadcast on 95.3 WNDI Radio with John Montgomery on the call.

SMWC (7–0) enters championship week as the outright MSFL Regular Season Champion for the second consecutive year and rides a perfect record into its final sprint football contest before transitioning to NAIA Football in 2026. A victory Saturday would deliver the program's first ever totally undefeated season, its second MSFL Playoff Championship, and a storybook conclusion to one of the most successful eras in SMWC Athletics history.

Calumet (6–1) advanced with a semifinal victory over Midway and will appear in its fourth straight MSFL Championship Game, seeking a third consecutive title.

Series and Championship History
SMWC holds a 4–3 advantage in the all-time series, though Calumet is 3–1 at Jay Barrett Field. The Pomeroys' lone home win against the Crimson Wave came in last season's regular-season finale.

The teams were scheduled to meet on October 18, but the game was declared a no contest due to severe weather minutes after kickoff. Saturday will be the programs' first completed meeting since 2023.

The Pomeroys' first MSFL Playoff Championship came in 2022, earned with a road victory at Calumet. That historic win contributed to one of the program's most impressive distinctions: SMWC has never lost a true road game, entering the weekend with a 13–0 all-time road record.

Calumet has won the last two MSFL Championships—both at Jay Barrett Field.

Balanced, High-Efficiency Offense
Quarterback Jeremiah Tosky anchors an explosive offense with 1,567 passing yards and 16 touchdowns entering championship week. He threw for 167 yards and two scores in the semifinal win over Bellarmine.

Running backs Derron Hazzard and Zy'Eiar White form one of the conference's most reliable backfields. Hazzard scored three total touchdowns in the semifinal—two rushing and one receiving—while White added 73 yards and a 15-yard touchdown.

Sixteen different receivers have caught passes this season, led by Kyle VernelsonXander HuntCorbyn Cleveland, and Kadin Matzke. SMWC averages 45.5 points and 400.2 total yards per game, both atop the MSFL standings.

Defense and Special Teams Fueling the Run
SMWC leads the conference in scoring defense at 19.3 points allowed per gameAdonimi Parker delivered a dominant semifinal performance with 10 tackles, four tackles for loss, an interception, and two quarterback hurries. Holtman Doades and Tyler Young added interceptions.

For the season, the Pomeroys have totaled 47.5 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, and 13 interceptions.

Special teams continue to provide game-changing moments. Byran Simmons sparked the second-half surge against Bellarmine with a 70-yard punt return, while Connor Wardlaw remained steady on PATs. Parker's multiple blocked kicks and game-swinging special-teams plays have earned national attention.

Calumet at a Glance
The Crimson Wave enters with a physical defensive front, a disciplined run game, and playoff-tested talent throughout the roster. Calumet has won the last two MSFL Championships in West Terre Haute and remains the only team to defeat SMWC at home in the postseason.

A Historic Final Chapter
Under head coach Blaine Powell (27–4), the Pomeroys have risen to the top of the MSFL, reaching four straight championship games and capturing the program's first league title in 2022. Saturday presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity:
  • First ever totally undefeated season
  • Second MSFL Playoff Championship in four years
  • A win in the final game before SMWC transitions to NAIA Football in 2026
A victory would cement SMWC's sprint football legacy and close the chapter with a championship celebration on home turf.
