ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — St. Mary-of-the-Woods College head coach Blaine Powell has been named the Midwest Sprint Football League Coach of the Year, earning the league's top coaching honor for the second time after directing the Pomeroys to an undefeated championship season.
Powell guided SMWC to a
perfect 8–0 record, marking the first fully undefeated season in program history. The Pomeroys sealed the milestone with a dominant
33–6 victory over Calumet in the MSFL Championship Game, capturing their second league title and reaching the championship stage for the fourth consecutive season — one of the most sustained runs of excellence in MSFL history.
Under Powell's leadership, SMWC excelled across all three phases and delivered its strongest overall season as the Pomeroys close the sprint-football chapter of the program before transitioning to NAIA football in 2026.
