Since April 5, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods softball team has just one blemish on its record -- a 6-5 home loss to Oakland City. The Pomeroys enter the opening day of the River States Conference Softball Championship winners of 16 of their last 17 games.
The Pomeroys (32-14, 18-8 RSC) take on Point Park (21-16) at 3 p.m. Thursday in South Charleston, W.Va., to open play in the double-elimination tournament.
The Pomeroys' final regular-season games were 4-3 and 3-2 victories at Midway as
Lanna Martinez and
Gracie Ables put together solid starts and
Summer Rocha earned a parir of saves.
"We played really well and all four pitchers attacked the strike zone and when they do that, we are pretty good," coach Jim Walker said.
Lyric Krause continued her hot hitting with a clutch two-RBI single that erased a 2-1 deficit in the sixth inning of the final regular-season game. Krause is hitting .384 with 12 RBIs over the past 12 games.
Tori Lee has been just as hot, with at least one hit in 14 of the past 15 games. She's hitting .479 (23 for 48) with four home runs and 14 RBIs during that stretch.
Leadoff hitter
Camryn Scott had a 16-game hitting streak snapped against Midway as she's lifted her batting average to .408 to go with her 50 stolen bases which rank No. 3 in the NAIA.
Jaleigh Crawford finished strong as well, with six multi-hit games among her last 12 to lead the team with a .409 batting average.
The Pomeroys won the 2022 RSC Championship in their first season competing in the league.
SMWC went 2-0 against Point Park during the regular-season, winning 7-5 and 11-0. If the Pomeroys win, they'll face overall top seed IU Southeast (30-15) on Friday at noon.
