The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to the road a little healthier after the Midwest Sprint Football League bye week. The Pomeroys take on the MSFL's other 3-0 team, a well-rounded Bellarmine squad, on Saturday at Saint Xavier High School in Louisville.
Returning to the field for SMWC are wide receivers
Andrece Miller and
Kyle Vernelson along with running backs
Kerry Lacey and
Tyler Vaughn.
The Pomeroys are coming off a game vs. Midway in which they accumulated 435 passing yards as
Jaheem Joseph cashed in for 175 yards and three scores to lead a now deep and talented receiving corps. for quarterback Brennan Landry.
"We've got a lot of depth and can have fresh legs throughout the game. We can split reps if we want to or situation some things. We went from one healthy running back to having four. Jaeden (King) also plays a lot of defense," coach
Blaine Powell said.
As for the opponent, Powell said his team is prepared for a tough opponent in all phases.
"We're prepared. Really good week of practice. It always raises the level (to take on another unbeaten team). At this stage of the season, we're starting to know who teams are and what they like to do. That helps out a lot. It's a big deal to be 3-0 and face a 3-0 team. It makes it even more fun," Powell said. "They're a very solid team. Good up front, good running backs. They rely on their running backs to do a lot. Their QB can run a little bit. He's just a steady kid that's smart and knows the offense. They depend on their defense and want to play the field position game."
