#PomeroyWBB Falls in Clash with Spalding

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to Spalding University on Wednesday night in Hamilton Arena, 99-89. The Pomeroys are now 3-7 on the year.

Junior Tara Parmer led four Pomeroys in double figures with 19 points. Sophomore Callan Taylor recorded 15 points, while freshman Ke'Chell Tate scored 12 points and senior Na-Shaunda Rayford scored 11 points. Defensively, the Pomeroys forced 27 turnovers behind Rayford's four steals and senior Ja'Breena Gardner's three steals. Freshman Hayley Preston led SMWC on the glass with seven rebounds.

SMWC came out firing in the first quarter to take a 26-24 lead heading into the second. SMWC shot 44 percent (4-of-9) from three in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Spalding struck back with 30 points to take a 54-50 lead into the break. In the second half, SU edged out SMWC by three points in both the third and fourth quarters with scores of 26-23 in the third and 19-16 in the fourth. The Pomeroys shot a blistering 91.7 percent (11-for-12) from the free throw line for the game, but in the end fell, 99-89.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on December 20 and 21 when they hit the road for back-to-back games at Brescia and Robert Morris-Peoria.
