SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team dropped a 73–55 decision to UHSP on Wednesday evening inside the Knoerle Center.
UHSP used a series of efficient scoring stretches in each of the first three quarters to build separation, shooting 41.9 percent from the field and forcing 21 SMWC turnovers. The Pomeroys trailed 38–27 at halftime and were unable to trim the deficit as UHSP pieced together a 21-12 third frame to take control.
SMWC was led by a balanced trio in double figures.
Abigail Parker,
Talyssa Moody, and
Samara Douglas each finished with 12 points. Parker added six assists and two steals, while Moody knocked down three 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds. Douglas posted an efficient 5-for-7 shooting line and collected seven boards.
Jonnaya Harris provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, including 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Nadiya Figures added two points, four rebounds, and two blocks, and
Jaala Campbell chipped in three points.
SMWC shot 39.6 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from beyond the arc while winning the free-throw battle, making 12 of 20 attempts. UHSP countered with 46 points in the paint and 26 points off turnovers.
The Pomeroys briefly gained a one-point lead in the first quarter, but UHSP responded with an 8–0 run and maintained momentum the rest of the way. SMWC outscored UHSP 16–14 in the fourth quarter behind improved defensive pressure and timely bench scoring.
