SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary of the Woods College women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory on Wednesday vs. Holy Cross College.

Wednesday's match saw junior Amanda Loebker notch her fourth goal of the season as SMWC snapped a two-game losing streak. Wednesday's match was the last home match for the Pomeroys until October 4, when they return for homecoming vs. Oakland City.

The first half was even, offensively, as both the Pomeroys and Saints recorded six shots. In the second half, the match became much more physical and the Pomeroys were up to the challenge as they recorded 13 shots to the Saints 3. Loebker's goal came in the 57th minute after a shot by freshman Crystal Magadan was batted away by the goalkeeper and landed right in front of Loebker where she knocked it in from 10 yards out.

With SMWC up 1-0, the match grew more and more physical, and a yellow card was issued to junior Katie Kniola in the 81stminute.

With time winding down, the Saints made several attempts to make a run, however, they were unsuccessful as SMWC walked away with the 1-0 victory at the final horn. Sophomore Georgie Macy played 59:56 minutes and made five saves before being replaced by freshman Shannon Sonderman, who was able to keep the Saints off the board in the final 30:04 minutes of play.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on September 20 when they head to Oakland City. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Stay tuned to SMWC.edu/athletics for up-to-date soccer news and information.
