Pomeroys Come Up Short at IU-Columbus, Host Shawnee State Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team battled to the final whistle but fell 2-1 to IU-Columbus on Thursday afternoon at Cera Sports Park.

IU-Columbus struck first in the 24th minute when Halle Archer put away a shot to give the Crimson Pride the early lead. The hosts extended the advantage in the 63rd minute, as Lily Campbell finished off a feed from Archer to make it 2-0.

The Pomeroys responded late when sophomore forward Olivia Wainscott scored in the 81st minute to bring SMWC within one, but the rally ended just short.

SMWC matched IU-Columbus in shots on goal (9-9) and nearly even in total shots (12-11), while goalkeeper Lauren Rindone registered seven saves in a full 90-minute effort.

Midfielder Raelee Everhart paced the Pomeroys with three shots, including two on target, while Tarni Nicol and Carley Balas also contributed key opportunities.

Archer led IU-Columbus with a goal and an assist while Campbell netted the eventual game-winner. Crimson Pride goalkeeper Zoe Bippus collected eight saves to secure the win.

The Pomeroys now return home to the SMWC Soccer Complex on Saturday, Oct. 25, for a River States Conference matchup against Shawnee State. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET).
