Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) soccer team fell to Hanover College on Saturday, 7-2.
Hanover got the scoring started in the fourth minute to jump out to an early lead. The Panthers then went on to add two goals heading into halftime. With the score 3-0 in favor of Hanover, the Pomeroys had their work cut out for them in the second half.
The Panthers got on the board 15 seconds into the second half and again in the 49th and 60th minutes moving their lead to 6-0. Junior Amanda Loebker got the Pomeroys on the board in the 75th minute as Loebker was taken down inside the goalie's box to give SMWC the penalty kick and ultimately their first goal of the match.
Hanover shot back with another goal to give them a 7-1 advantage in the 85th minute. With time winding down, SMWC found itself in the perfect position to add another goal as senior Sarah Robinson notched her first goal of the season in the 88th minute.
Freshman Shannon Sonderman and sophomore Georgie Macy again split time in goal. Macy finished the day with three saves in the first half, while Sonderman finished the second half with four saves.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17 when they host Holy Cross College in a 3 p.m. start time at the SMWC Soccer Field.
