Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team moved to 2-2 on the year after falling to Earlham College on Wednesday, 103-83.
The Pomeroys had three players record double-digit scoring, with junior Desiree Irizarry leading the way with 19 points. Fellow juniors Shelby Parmer and Grace Ziegler weren't far behind with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Parmer recorded a game-high eight assists, while freshman Jordan Lloyd grabbed a team-high four rebounds. Irizarry led the team in steals with three and also recorded one block.
The Pomeroys jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead to start the game, as Irizarry and senior Alaura McKemie made back-to-back 3-pointers. It would be SMWC's largest lead of the game. With 8:20 on the clock, SMWC led by five, but Earlham began to chip away at the Pomeroys lead. EC regained the lead at 7:02 and headed into halftime up 53-45.
Earlham picked up where they left off in the first half and held a double-digit lead for the remaining 13:02. The Pomeroys finished the game shooting 34 percent (28-of-82) from the floor and 26 percent (10-of-38) from 3-point range. Earlham did most of their damage from the floor, as they shot 54 percent (43-of-80) from the floor yet just 21 percent (3-of-14) from 3-point range.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on November 22 when they host Fontbonne College in a 2 p.m. tip at the Knoerle Center.
