DANIELS, W.Va. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's golf team opened the 2026 River States Conference Championships with a strong showing Sunday, sitting in third place after the first round at The Resort at Glade Springs.
The Pomeroys posted a team score of 328 on the par-72 layout, trailing only Indiana University East (314) and Midway University (324). SMWC holds a narrow edge over Oakland City University (329) and Indiana University Kokomo (333) heading into Monday's second round.
SMWC was led by a pair of top-five performances from
Kristin Pagach and
Renae Jaeger, who each carded 79 to sit tied for fourth place after 18 holes. The duo is just three strokes off the individual lead.
Macie Shirk added an 84 and is tied for 16th, while
Bailey Barker posted an 86 to sit tied for 20th. Brianna Andres rounded out the Pomeroy lineup with a 97 in the opening round.
Individually, Sophia Curry leads the field after an opening-round 76, with multiple players close behind entering the second round.
Round 2 of the River States Conference Championships is scheduled for Monday, May 4, with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. (ET).
