RICHMOND, Ind. — The
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's golf team sits in second place following the opening round of the Forest Hills Women's Invitational, hosted by Indiana University East at Forest Hills Country Club.
The Pomeroys posted a team score of 348 on the par-72, 5,864-yard layout, trailing Indiana University East (338) by 10 strokes. SMWC holds an 11-stroke advantage over Indiana University Kokomo (357), while Earlham sits fourth at 385.
Individually,
Renae Jaeger paced the Pomeroys with a round of 83, placing fourth overall and one stroke back of the tournament lead. Indiana University East's Sophia Curry, Maddie Campbell and Peityn Gillman are tied for first at 82.
Bailey Barker added an 86 to place sixth, while
Kristin Pagach carded an 88 to tie for eighth, giving the Pomeroys three golfers inside the top 10 after the opening round.
Brianna Andres and
Macie Shirk each posted rounds of 91 to finish tied for 12th and round out the team scoring.
Competing as individuals,
Eva Mennonno finished tied for 22nd with a 95, while
Emily Vandall recorded a 101.
SMWC's depth and consistency throughout the lineup keep the Pomeroys firmly in contention heading into the final round.
The Forest Hills Women's Invitational concludes Saturday, as
SMWC looks to close the gap and compete for the team title.
