GREENVILLE, Ill. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College track and field teams turned in a strong, well-rounded performance Saturday at the Greenville Select Meet, highlighted by a record-breaking day from
Jerahmia Smith and multiple personal-best efforts across the roster.
Smith delivered the top performance of the meet for the Pomeroys, winning the men's shot put with a throw of
17.03 meters (55-10.50). The mark secured an
NAIA 'A' standard, set a
new school record, ranks
No. 1 in the River States Conference this season, and places him among the
top marks nationally in the NAIA.
The momentum extended into the throws, where
Tristin Benskin recorded a
school record and personal best in the men's discus with a mark of
43.71 meters (143-5), while also placing in the shot put. On the women's side,
Callee Riggle led the Pomeroys in the throws with a sixth-place finish in the shot put (
10.39m / 34-1.25) and added a solid performance in the hammer throw.
Distance standout
Brooke Mace delivered one of the top performances on the women's side, placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a
personal-best time of 13:27.00.
In the sprints,
Jaci Stone paced the Pomeroys with a
season-best 12.57 in the 100 meters and added a
26.70 in the 200 meters. Stone also contributed in the long jump, while
Nadiyah Figures led SMWC in the event with a top mark of
4.74 meters (15-6.75).
The hurdles group showed depth, led by
Evelyn Morales, who placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (
1:07.44) after also competing in the 100-meter hurdles.
TeRah Cooley added a top-eight finish in the 100-meter hurdles and competed in the 400-meter hurdles as well.
In the middle-distance events,
Gwen Garman (
2:34.61) and
Chloe Field (
2:34.95) led SMWC in the 800 meters with competitive finishes.
On the men's side,
Quaion Russell turned in strong sprint performances in both the 100 meters and 400 meters, while contributing to the Pomeroys' relay efforts. The men's 4x400-meter relay team posted a time of
3:36.23, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team finished in
4:33.15 to close out the meet.
In the field events,
Eli Cox added a top finish for SMWC in the javelin (
40.79m / 133-10), while multiple Pomeroys contributed across jumping and throwing events to round out the team effort.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will return to action next weekend at the Little State Championships in Marion, Indiana.
