SMWC Track & Field Posts Scoring Efforts at DePauw Invite, Turns Attention to RSC Championships

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams delivered multiple scoring performances Saturday at the DePauw Invite as the Pomeroys continue preparations for the River States Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 20-21.

The SMWC women finished seventh overall with 26 team points in an 11-team field. Host DePauw captured the team title with 277.5 points, followed by Purdue Run Club (82.5) and Manchester (80).

Sophomore Joslyn Young led the way for the women with a first-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 1:02.65 to score 10 team points. Young also added points in the high jump, clearing 1.43 meters (4-08.25) to place fifth, and recorded a personal best of 28.34 in the 200 meters.

Freshman TeRah Cooley earned six points with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals (9.94) after qualifying in prelims. Genesis Boyd also scored in the event, placing eighth in 11.18.

Senior Jaci Stone qualified for the finals in the 60 meters and placed seventh overall in 8.24 to score two points. Stone also added a point in the long jump, while Gaige Goodman contributed three points with a sixth-place mark of 4.73 meters (15-06.25) in the long jump.

On the men's side, SMWC placed ninth overall with 28.5 team points in a 12-team field.

Senior Jaryn Patterson recorded a personal best of 1:29.25 in the 600 meters to place third and score six points. He also cleared a personal-best 3.95 meters (12-11.50) in the pole vault to add 2.5 points.

Freshman Nathan Odle secured five points in the 1000 meters (2:42.12), while Elijah Williams added three points in the 800 meters (1:59.54). Junior Tristin Benskin scored four points in the shot put (14.03m / 46-00.50) and two more in the weight throw (15.63m / 51-03.50).

With several personal bests and key scoring performances across both squads, the Pomeroys will now focus on the River States Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 20-21 as they look to cap the indoor season with strong conference showings.
