OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College sprint football left little doubt in its road matchup Saturday, storming past Oakland City University 63–6 at Wood Memorial High School to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Pomeroys scored in all three phases of the game and showcased their depth, racking up 393 yards of offense while forcing four turnovers and adding scores on special teams and defense.
Big Plays Early
Jason Rucker set the tone by returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown just 14 seconds into the contest. Quarterback
Jeremiah Tosky followed with two first-half touchdown passes to
Corbyn Cleveland, including a 35-yard strike, to help build a 42–6 halftime advantage.
Defensively,
Byran Simmons delivered a momentum-shifting play late in the second quarter, intercepting a pass and returning it 75 yards for a touchdown. Simmons added another interception in the second half and finished with 88 total return yards.
Offensive Balance
The ground game paved the way for five rushing touchdowns.
Zy'Eiar White ran for 74 yards and a score on 10 carries, while
Brandyn Bobo added two touchdowns.
Derron Hazzard and
Xander Hunt also found the end zone.
Tosky finished 11-of-18 passing for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while
Marlon Salmon contributed 76 total yards (54 rushing, 22 passing).
Clevelan led the receivers with 60 yards and two touchdowns, while
Dameon Miller added five receptions for 53 yards.
Defense Shines
SMWC's defense held the Mighty Oaks (0-3) to just 42 net rushing yards on 31 attempts and only 70 passing yards.
Brodi Smith and
Garry Settle each recorded sacks, while
John Taft forced and recovered a fumble.
Special Teams
Along with Suggs' kickoff return, kicker
Connor Wardlaw was perfect on nine PAT attempts.
Holtman Doades boomed a 65-yard punt that landed inside the 20-yard line.
