DANIELS, W.V. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's golf team wrapped up its season with an eighth-place finish at the River States Conference Championships, held at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia. The tournament, contested over three days on the par-72, 6,898-yard Cobb Course, featured a competitive field from across the conference.
The Pomeroys posted team rounds of 308, 325, and 314 for a total score of 947, placing them ahead of Brescia and just behind Shawnee State. Midway University claimed the team title with a score of 907, narrowly defeating West Virginia Tech by two strokes. Oakland City rounded out the top three with 918.
Leading SMWC individually was sophomore
Benjamin Goshen, who carded rounds of 79, 77, and 78 to finish at 234 (+18), good for 20th place in the 48-player field.
Close behind were teammates
Chase Nuckols and
Colby Beckwith, who each shot 238 (+22) to tie for 26th overall. Nuckols improved steadily through the tournament, posting scores of 81, 79, and 78, while Beckwith bounced back from a second-round 86 with a strong final-round 77.
Justin Hopkins finished tied for 30th, scoring 75, 83, and 81 for a 239 (+23). Rounding out the scoring for the Pomeroys was
Brevin Cooper, who placed 41st with rounds of 79, 87, and 86 for a 252 (+36).
