SMWC Men’s Golf Completes Opening Round at Whistling Straits Classic

KOHLER, Wis. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's golf team opened play Monday at the Whistling Straits Classic, battling tough conditions on one of the nation's most iconic championship courses.

The Pomeroys posted a team score of 346 in the opening round, placing them 10th in a competitive 12-team field. Taylor University leads the way after carding 312, followed closely by UW-Parkside at 314 and Grace College at 320.

Nolan Allen paced the Pomeroys with a round of 82 to tie for 23rd individually. Tomas Carvajal turned in an 87 to tie for 41st, while Nolan Mishler shot 88 to tie for 44th. John Amt finished with an 89 to sit in a tie for 48th, and Neal Jeffery closed the lineup with a 95 in 61st place.

Grace College's Camron Jones holds the individual lead after firing a 74. Taylor's Davis Formsma is in second with a 75, while Pikeville's Kaeden Anderson is in third with a 76.

The Whistling Straits Classic continues Tuesday with the second and final round of play.
