RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field team enjoyed several standout performances at the River States Conference Outdoor Championships during the second day of competition (April 26). The event was hosted by Rio Grande (Ohio).
The men's track and field squad was sixth with 75 points in the overall team standings.
Darrius Megnin picked up a championship win in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.26 seconds. Megnin also bested his school record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.51 seconds to finish in fourth place.
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Megnin, Christian Woodard, Jaryn Patterson and Na'Sier Samuel recorded the fastest time of 3:24.65 to pick up a win in the event.
Jerahmia Smith wrapped an outstanding outdoor season with a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.79 meters (51-9.75) to score eight points for the Pomeroys while Tristin Benskin recorded a seventh place finish with a mark of 13.95 meters (45-9.25) and two more points in the meet. Eli Cox was 10th with a throw of 13.19 meters (43-3.25).
Na'Sier Samuel continued his breakout outdoor campaign with a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.09 seconds to record five points.
Christian Woodard was also a scorer in the 400 with a seventh place finish in a time of 51.07 seconds. Samuel also recorded a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.50 seconds while Woodard was eighth in a time of 23.02 seconds.
The men's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Devon Bowe, Megnin, Woodard and Samuel raced to a third place finish and six points scored with a time of 43.54 seconds.
Thomas Chapman notched a fifth place finish and scored four points in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:07.45 to help the Pomeroys move up in the tea standings.
In the men's discus throw Benskin posted a 13th place finish with a toss of 36.77 meters (120-8). Abbott Church was 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.85 meters (38-10.5).
