Colby Beckwith Paces Pomeroys On Final Day Of The Take Back The Night Challenge

DECATUR, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's golf team concluded its regular season Saturday at the Take Back The Night Challenge, hosted by Millikin University at Southside Country Club.

The Pomeroys placed 16th overall in the 20-team field, posting rounds of 307 and 314 for a two-day total of 621 on the par-70, 6,364-yard layout.

Leading the way for SMWC was Justin Hopkins, who turned in rounds of 69 and 78 to finish at 147 (+7) and tie for 26th individually among a competitive field. Colby Beckwith followed with a strong showing, carding rounds of 74 and 77 for a 151 (+11), tying for 43rd place.

Benjamin Goshen posted rounds of 83 and 78 to finish at 161 (+21), tying for 92nd, while Brevin Cooper shot 81 and 81 for a total of 162 (+22), tying for 97th. Nolan Allen, competing as an individual, recorded rounds of 81 and 84 for a 165 (+25), tying for 108th.

Rounding out the Pomeroy lineup, Chase Nuckols posted a second-round improvement with scores of 92 and 82 to finish at 174 (+34), tying for 113th place.

Nationally ranked No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan won the team title with a score of 559, followed by No. 25 UW-Eau Claire at 564. Calvin University placed third at 580, while Mississippi University for Women (No. 37) finished fourth at 581.

SMWC now turns its attention to postseason play. The Pomeroys will compete at the River States Conference Championships, scheduled for May 4-6 in Daniels, West Virginia.
