Pomeroy Women's Track & Field Set Up For Big Saturday Showing

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The SMWC track and field teams have scored early points with high individual performances and are set up for a big second day with many qualifiers after the prelims on Friday (April 25) after the opening day of the 2025 River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet is being hosted by Rio Grande (Ohio) with eight universities competing.

The SMWC women's track and field team currently stands in seventh place with 26 points after the first day of competition. 

The 2025 River States Conference Championships continue on Saturday, April 26 with events beginning at 11 am (ET).

Jaci Stone set a new personal best in the long jump — the 2nd-best mark in school history — with a leap of 5.19 meters (17-0.25) to record a second place showing and put eight points on the board. Lauren Majors finished ninth with a personal best — and third-highest ever at SMWC — with a mark of 4.68 meters (15-4.25) while Payton Smith was 13th with a distance of 4.34 meters (14-2.75).

Callee Riggle notched eight points for the Pomeroys with a second place finish in the women's javelin as her best toss covered 31.16 meters (102-3). Renee Pierce posted a 12th place showing with a personal best toss of 16.31 meters (53-6). 

Evelyn Morales set a new school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.73 seconds and qualified for Saturday's finals by posting the fastest time of the day. Also moving on is Joslyn Young who had the eighth-fastest time of the day by recording a mark of 17.54 seconds. 

Kyla Bradberry led a group of three Pomeroys who will move on to the finals of the 100 meter dash on Saturday with a time of 12.36 seconds — the fastest time of the day in the event. Stone posted a time of 12.62 seconds which was third and Hope McGuire's time of 12.77 seconds was fourth. 

It was the same story for the Pomeroys in the 200 meter dash as the trio of Bradberry, McGuire and Stone will move on to Saturday's finals in the event as well. Bradberry posted the top time of 25.14 seconds while McGuire's time of 26.30 seconds was third. Stone recorded the seventh-fastest time of the day with a season-best mark of 26.75 seconds. 

Quinlan Teague finished fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 41:52.80 to score four points.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Brinlee McCloud, Gwen Garman, Emma Lynch and Chloe Field posted two points with a seventh place finish in a time of 11:02.91. 

McCloud would go to finish in fifth place to score four points for SMWC in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:36.48. 

Riggle recorded an 11th place finish in the women's hammer throw with a throw of 33.51 meters (109-11) while IndiAnn Nichols was 15th with a mark of 29.38 meters (96-5). 

Payton Smith tied a season-best with a pole vault of 2.40 meters (7-10.5) to finish in a tie for ninth place.
