NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's golf team finished 10th at The Sagamore Shootout, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan on Monday, April 21. Both rounds of the 36-hole event were played at The Sagamore Club, a par-72, 7,040-yard Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
The Pomeroys posted team rounds of 334 and 327 for a total score of 661 (+85) in a deep 13-team field. Marian (Ind.) and Indiana Wesleyan shared the team title, each finishing at 606 (+30). Midway placed third with a 619 (+43), followed by Taylor (622) and Spring Arbor (632) to round out the top five.
For SMWC, a trio of players led the way with consistent efforts.
Benjamin Goshen,
Justin Hopkins, and
Brevin Cooper all finished tied for 43rd at +21 (165). Goshen carded rounds of 82 and 83, Hopkins shot 84-81, and Cooper posted 83-82.
Chase Nuckols bounced back from an opening 89 with an impressive 81 in the second round to finish T54 at +26.
Colby Beckwith (85-87—172) and
Nolan Allen (84-88—172) both tied for 58th.
Marian's Weston Ogden captured medalist honors with a 3-over-par 147, highlighted by a tournament-low 69 in the second round. Indiana Wesleyan's Sam Dykema finished second at +5 (149), while teammates Kyle Sanders and Eli Anema tied for third at +6 (150).
The Pomeroys will return to action later this week at the Millikin Invitational in Decatur, Illinois, scheduled for April 25–26.
