Pomeroys Set Two School Records On Opening Day Of Little States Championships

MARION, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College track & field teams sent select athletes to the opening day of the 120th Annual Little State Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan on April 11. The final day of competition is set for Saturday, April 12.

After the opening day, the men's team is tied for seventh with 10 points while the women's team owns five points and is tied for 11th place.

The opening day was highlighted by Jerahmia Smith who won the men's shot put with a school-record and River States Conference season best throw of 15.88 meters (52-1.25). Smith who qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships is close once again to hitting the national standard to advance outdoors. Eli Cox went on to finish 18h in the event with mark of 12.97 meters (42-6.75). 

Callee Riggle also set a new school record — this one in the women's javelin — with a throw of 32.02 meters (105-1) which is the second-best mark this season in the River States Conference. Riggle finished sixth in the field of 34 competitors.

Evelyn Morales posted a seventh place finish in the women's triple jump with a mark of 9.48 meters (31-1.25) — a season-best for Morales.

IndiAnn Nichols recorded a throw of 10.26 meters (33-8) to finish in 24th place in the shot put while Riggle recorded a mark of 9.89 meters (32-5.25) to finish 28th.

Eli Cox was 20th in the men's javelin with a throw of 38.69 meters (126-11). Abbott Church posted a 17th place finish the men's triple jump with a leap of 11.42 meters (37-5.5).
