TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams each finished fourth at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational on Saturday (March 22).
The SMWC men's team finished fourth in the event with 101 points while Rose-Hulman won the event with 135 points.
Darrius Megnin set a school record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.85 seconds which was good enough for second place in the event. Also in second place with a school record time of 22.04 seconds in the 200 meter hurdles was Na'Sier Samuel.
Christian Woodard was fifth with a time of 22.54 seconds.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Megnin, Woodard, Jaryn Patterson and Samuel won the event with a school record time of 3:22.64. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Devin Bowe, Samuel, Woodard and Megnin was fourth with a school record time of 43.26 seconds.
Tristan Benskin won the shot put with a school record throw of 15.28 meters (50-1.75) while
Jerahmia Smith was second with a toss of 15.13 meters (49-7.75). In the discus throw, Benskin recorded a mark of 40.38 meters (132-05) for a third place finish. In the weight, Benskin posted a throw of 43.10 meters (141-5) which was eighth.
Samuel came back in the 400 meters with a school record time of 49.29 seconds which won the event. Megnin destroyed the school record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.85 seconds and finished in second place.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase,
Ethan DeHamer posted a time of 12:09.04 for a fourth place finish.
Abbott Church was fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.80 meters (5-10.75).
Eli Cox set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 37.43 meters (122-9) and an eighth place finish. Chruch came back later to finish third in triple jump with a mark of 12.28 meters (40-3.5).
Jaryn Patterson set a personal best in the pole vault with a leap of 3.52 meters (11-6.5) which was sixth-best.
SMWC travels across town again on March 28 & 29 when they participate in the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State University.
