SMWC Women Post Solid Performances On Opening Day Of River States Championships

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's track and field team had a strong opening day of the River States Conference Indoor Championships on Friday evening (Feb. 14).

The second and final day of the event will be held on Saturday, February 15 beginning at 9 am (ET).

The Pomeroy women are currently in seventh place in the team standings with 23 points. IU-Kokomo and Rio Grande are tied for the team lead with 54 points each.

Freshman IndiAnn Nichols recorded a third-place finish in the women's shotput with a throw of 10.94 meters (35-10.75) to score six points for the Pomeroys in the meet. Callee Riggle was ninth with a throw of 10.40 meters (34-1.5).

Quinlan Teague recorded a fifth place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:31.50 to score four points. 

In the 55 meter hurdles prelims Evelyn Morales advanced to the final with a time of 9.28 seconds. That is the third fastest time of the day in the event. The SMWC women had two qualifiers in the 55 meter dash as Hope McGuire advances to the finals with a time of 7.50 seconds which is good enough for third place while Jaci Stone recorded a time of 7.58 seconds which will be seeded sixth in the final. 

In the 4 x 800 meter relay, Chloe Field, Gwen Garman, Clara Westcott and Brinlee McCloud finished in fourth place to earn five points with a time of 11:12.65. 

Hope McGuire posted the fastest time in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.81 seconds and will advance to Saturday's finals. Alex Hernandez will also be in the finals of the event with a sixth place finish in the prelims with a time of 27.45 seconds.

Stone went on to finish fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.87 meters (16-0). It marked a personal-best for Stone in the event and scored four points for the Pomeroys in the team standings.

Payton Smith recorded a pole vault of 2.25 meters (7-4.5) which was good enough for eighth place and to score a point for the Pomeroys. 

The team of McCloud, Hernandez, Garman and Teague competed in the 4,000 meter distance medley relay and finished in a time of 15:07.76 which was good enough for seventh place and two points.
