RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's golf team recorded a third place finish at the IU East Fall Invitational while
Justin Hopkins earned the event's individual championship. The tournament was held on August 30 & 31 at the Highland Lake Golf Course.
Hopkins led after the opening day by firing a round of 67 on Friday and came back with a second round of 73 for a total of 140 and the tournament victory. He topped a pair of golfers who recorded two-day scores of 142 for the win.
Chase Nuckols was 12th in the tournament with scores of 73 and 76 -- a total of 149.
Hunter Martin was also 12th in the event with rounds of 76 and 73 to also post a total of 149.
Grant Schlue tallied rounds of 79 and 72 to post a tournament tally of 151 which tied for 22nd place.
Brevin Cooper's scores of 80 and 72 gave him a total of 152 which finished in 25th place.
Nolan Allen rounded out the participants by finishing in 32nd place with scores of 78 and 75 -- a total of 153.
SMWC posted rounds of 295 and 290 for a team total of 585 and a third place team finish. Rio Grande won the event with a score of 580 while Earlham was second at 584. The Woods edged host IU East who posted a score of 599.
The Pomeroys return to action on Sunday, September 8 when they host DePauw at the Idle Creek Golf Club.
