Pomeroy Men's Track Posts 8th Place Finish At RSC Outdoor Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Both the St. Mary-of-the-Woods men's and women's track & field teams posted eighth place finishes at 2024 River States Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Point Park.

Point Park won the men's side with a score of 180, followed by Rio Grande, IU-Kokomo, Shawnee State, Midway (Ky.), IU-East and Oakland City. In eighth place, the Pomeroys scored 39 points and beat Brescia (Ky.), Alice Lloyd (Ky.), West Virginia Tech and Ohio Christian.

For the men, Xavier Rahe was sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.64 seconds to record three points. In the men's 5,000 meter run Thomas Chapman recorded an eighth place finish with a time of 15:48.61 to score a point after finishing eighth the day before in the 10,000 meter run. 

The men's 4 x 100 relay team of Djibrille Salako, Rahe, Luke Frey and Ahmad Benford was fifth to score four points in a time of 43.97 seconds. The men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Salako, Christian Woodard, Jaryn Patterson and Rahe was fifth with a time of 3:29.91. 

The men's pole vault saw two scorers with Matthew Hayden placing seventh with a mark of 3.50 meters (11-5.75) while Patterson was eighth as he posted a mark of 3.05 meters (10-0).

In the men's triple jump, Luke Frey scored six points with a career-best mark of 13.30 meters (43-7.75) to finish in third place while Javian Edwards was fourth with a mark of 13.19 meters (43-3.25). 

Tristan Benskin finished seventh in the men's shot put with a distance of 13.89 meters (45-7). 

DAY 1 RECAP:

In the field for the men, Luke Frey garnered a fourth place finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.49 meters (21-3.5) to score five points in the event. 

For the men on the track, Thomas Chapman scored for the Pomeroys with a fifth place finish in the men's 10,000 meter run with a time of 31:49.25 which is a new personal best. In the men's 5,000 meter race walk, James Freiy was seventh to score two points with a time of 32:17.74. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Hayden, Heaton, Weir and Smith set a new season best with a time of 9:02.49 and finished in ninth place.

NAIA Nationals Qualfiers:

The Woods will be represented at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships by Krislynn Bailey in the Women's Pole Vault on May 22 while Javian Edwards has qualified for the Men's Long Jump and will compete on May 24.
