Pomeroys set multiple school records at EIU Invite

 The SMWC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the EIU John Craft Invitational against NCAA Division I competition Saturday, taking 10 top-five finishes and breaking multiple school records.
Freshman Tristan Benskin shattered the shot put indoor school record with a throw of 13.57 meters (44-6 ¼), breaking the previous mark of 12.19 meters. Benskin also set a new school record in the weight throw, tossing a fourth-place throw of 14.75 meters (48-4 ¾).
Xavier Rahe set indoor school records in the 200 and 400 meters taking third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.39 seconds and second in the 400 with a time of 51.86.
Ahmad Benford ran a strong time of 7.14 seconds in the 60-meter dash to take fourth place for the fastest time in school history.
The SMWC women's sprinters also had a solid day.
Hope McGuire won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.91 seconds. Sophomore Jaci Stone took fifth in a time of 29.34 seconds.
McGuire ran a time of 7.97 seconds to take fourth in the 60-meter dash, while Savannah Lewis was just behind in fifth with a time of 8.04 seconds.
Paige Chickadaunce took second in the 600 meters in a time of 1:51.35.
In the women's field events, Krislynn Bailey took runner-up in the pole vault with a height 3.34 meters (10-11 ½). Alyssa Winterstein was third with a height of 2.14 meters (7-0 ¼).
Lara Skaggs took second in the long jump with a leap of 4.85 meters (15-11).
The Pomeroys had two top-five finishers in the high jump. Skaggs and sophomore Evelyn Morales each had a mark of 1.42 meters (4-7 ¾) to take third and fourth place respectively.
In men's long jump, Luke Frey and Benford took third and fourth place with jumps of 6.22 meters and 6.12 meters.
In men's distance, Thomas Chapman placed eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:53.29. Alec Smith also placed eighth in the mile with a time of 4:41.26, that ranks second in SMWC indoor history.
