SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women's basketball team climbed a notch in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Coaches poll. The Pomeroys debuted in the Week 1 poll as in the number three position. The poll released for Week 2 has SMWC ranked in second place.
The Pomeroys are off to one of their best starts with a 7-2 overall record and a 3-1 record in the newly joined River States Conference.
Coach Scot MacAllister continues to credit his team's hard work for their overall success. Leading the scoring, Syndey Ingram averages 14 points per game, with
Aliyah Williams averaging 11.8 points per game.
Avalee Jeffers leads in rebounding with 7.7 rebounds per game,
Allyson Hardiek averaging 6.3 rebounds per game and
Destiny Thomas averaging 4.9 rebounds per game. Leading the team in assists are
Abby Worley with 3.9 assists per game and
Aliyah Williams with 3.1 assists per game.
MacAllister praises the collective effort and chemistry that accounts for their success. "Everyone sees the record and the stats, which are great, as they're measurable indicators of growth. Let me give you some others —
Brooke Andrus, Lexi Baver,
Emma Saunders,
Savannah Frye — players who ensure we're all working hard in practice and the games. You'll hear them from the bench echoing play calls, reminding their teammates of the scout, encouraging and coaching their teammates as hard as the coaching staff. That's the chemistry indicator. They help make us go, and they're a huge reason for our team growth. They help ensure we play and practice to our standard."
MacAllister is confident the team can continue its success in the upcoming
schedule.
Their next contest will be Saturday, December 11 at Miami University (Hamilton) with tip off at 1 pm.
