SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College's Sara Amstutz has been named the 2024-25 River States Conference Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) of the Year, as announced by the league office.
Amstutz, who has served as SMWC's Faculty Athletics Representative throughout the College's transition to the NAIA, was honored for her outstanding service, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of student-athletes.
Over the past four years, Amstutz has played an instrumental role in helping SMWC navigate the complexities of NAIA eligibility requirements. Her one-on-one work with student-athlete transfers to ensure academic eligibility—often helping chart customized paths to eligibility for those not yet qualified—has been a cornerstone of the department's success.
"Sara has gone above and beyond to support our student-athletes," said SMWC Associate Vice President for Athletics Kevin Lanke. "She works tirelessly with our coaches and staff to ensure compliance with NAIA rules while also championing the academic and personal development of our athletes. Sara's professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to our student-athletes make her an invaluable part of our team."
Amstutz also collaborates closely with SMWC's compliance and athletic departments to ensure clarity and consistency in eligibility standards, often double- and triple-checking credit hour tracking, 24/36 credit rule compliance, and best practices.
While she had considered stepping away from the FAR role due to increased academic responsibilities, Amstutz chose to continue for one more year to provide stability and leadership during a pivotal time of transition for the athletic department.
Her decision to extend her service underscores her dedication to both the College and the holistic success of student-athletes.
